As of November, about 1.75 million merchants in the U.S. now accept EMV chip cards, helping consumers close out the year with more peace of mind that chip is helping to prevent more counterfeit fraud at checkout. In fact, chip-enabled merchants saw a 45 percent decline in counterfeit fraud in August when compared to the year prior.
