There are more than 363 million Visa chip cards in the United States as of August, a 156 percent increase in the last 12 months. On the merchant side, the steady rise in chip-ready locations—to nearly 1.5 million—is having an impact on counterfeit fraud trends. At chip-enabled merchants in the U.S., counterfeit fraud dropped 47 percent in May compared with a year earlier. In addition, there were more than half a billion Visa chip transactions in July—a 1000-plus percent increase in the last year.
