Being able to use your phone as a card is convenient—but just how safe is it?
Apple Pay lets you use your phone to pay as if it were your Visa card, no swiping necessary, with security provided by Visa Token Service. With Visa Token Service, your account number is replaced with a unique digital token so that even if a transaction is compromised, your personal information is not put at risk.
Want to get started? All you need is your Visa card and your Apple device— iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 and Apple Watch are each compatible with the payment technology. If you haven’t already set up Touch ID or a passcode, do so before proceeding further.
Then, open up Passbook and tap the + symbol (on a phone) or go to Settings > Passbook & Apple Pay (on a tablet) to add your card, either manually or by snapping a photo of the number. You may also need to have verification information handy.
Once you’re done, you can start using your device to make purchases in over 1 million stores and restaurants accepting Apple Pay, including McDonald’s, Duane Reade, Staples, Whole Foods Market and more.
Even better, when you use your Visa card on Apple Pay, you’ll get all the same benefits you get when you use your plastic card.
