Use your card wherever you see the Visa
logo
Visa is accepted at millions of retail outlets
worldwide and 1.6 million ATMs in more than 200 countries and
territories. When using your card at an ATM, normal currency
exchange rates apply, but there are no additional charges.
Visa cards are a safe and easy way to buy things abroad.
Travel Tips
Here are some useful tips for travelling with
your Visa card.
Before you leave:
- Check the expiry date on your Visa card.
- Make sure that you have enough funds in your
account, or that you’re up-to-date with your card payments.
- Photocopy your Visa card and passport, but
keep these copies safely separate from each other.
- Write down the telephone numbers for our
assistance call centres. You can find these on
visaeurope.com.
When you get there:
- Try not to keep cards and cash in the same
place. That way, if the worst happens, you won't lose
everything.
- In crowded places, hold bags or wallets close
to your body. It may not be the most stylish accessory, but a money
belt that you hide under clothing can be very useful.
- When you pay with your Visa card, make sure
the information on the sales voucher is correct before you sign or
enter your Personal Identification Number (PIN).
- Use safety deposit boxes or room safes in
hotels.
- Keep a copy of all sales receipts and check
them against your Visa statement.
- Memorise your PIN if you plan to get local
currency from an ATM – and make sure nobody is looking over your
shoulder when you withdraw money.
