Security Online
The safer way to shop
Shopping online is now as safe as the high street. Plus it’s
reassuring to know that when you pay with your Visa card, you can
get your money back (subject to your bank’s terms and conditions)
if, for example:
- you’re the victim of online fraud
- your order is not delivered
- your goods arrive damaged
- you receive the wrong item
- if your travel company or airline goes under before or during
your trip.
Complete confidence
Our Verified by Visa
service makes your transactions extra secure by protecting your
card against unauthorised use. Look out for the Verified by Visa
logo on your favourite websites.
Further safeguards
Whenever you use the internet, there are extra measures you can
take to make your online experience a safer one:
- Encryption – Make sure that your card details
will be encrypted securely before being sent across the Internet.
Look for an unbroken key or lock at the bottom of your browser
window or check the website address. This should begin ‘https://’
rather than ‘http://’.
- Update – Use the latest version of your
browser's software and check that your computer's operating system
is up to date.
- Check – Only shop with retailers you know
about. Or, research them first to ensure they are reputable and
reliable.
- Record – Keep a note of your Internet
transactions, including the retailer's website address. Many online
stores send customers e-mails summarising the purchase details – so
make sure you save or print these.
- Before buying – Read the delivery and return
policies that should be on the retailer’s website. Check if
unsatisfactory or faulty items can be sent back. And can you get a
refund or a credit note?
- Contact details – Note down the retailer’s
telephone number or e-mail address in case you have any
queries.
Other information that should also be on the retailer’s
website are their delivery arrangements and costs, currencies they
accept, and any taxes that apply.
